Familie
The title of this work was chosen, because it has its inspirational origins in what was actually a very old, hand painted portrait of a family. The family members, including the children, were all standing together, stiffly in that sort of way, which was traditional over a century ago. I had no desire to compete with the originator of that portrait. I wanted merely to reproduce the sensations I felt, when studying the portrait, but in a form, which was not reliant upon the actual identities in the portrait.
